I’m feeling rough, I’m feeling raw, I’m in the prime of my life.

31 July 2009

Six days before school starts. I’m trying to make the most of my excessive free time by blogging my butt off. Murphy’s Law really does bite you sometimes. Now that the first week of school will soon be upon us, my sleeping habits suddenly decided to betray me and my boredom was, on the same token, vaporised by Tumblr and ONTD and internet memes. I’m still listening to the eight-artist playlist I made yesterday. I get to listen to Why? the most, though, given that I have more than three of their albums. As I type this sentence, as a matter of fact, Why’s “These Few Presidents” is playing. It’s my favourite song by them.

I’m taking some time right now to talk about two silly, happy and beautiful people with whom I have spent time this summer.

This fierce HBIC is Paulina and she’s the one who always tells me to calm down when I’m hyperventilating, freaking out over Harry Potter or showing signs of stress in any other way or form. She also reminds me to pay more attention to my Manila friends rather than OSFs, which is good because she keeps me down to earth like that. Even though she doesn’t know ANY of the artists I listen to (at least none that matter) I still forgive her because she actually buys her music on iTunes like every normal person should. She’s awesome because she pities me (I’m almost serious about this) and tries to help me out of my pitiful boredom by inviting me to go out with her and her mom. I thank her eternally for making my summer a whole lot better than I expected it to be. I’ve only known her for seven months, but these past few months are the most fun I’ve had in a while.

Now, Angie is Burmese but she looks like a Filipino because she’s in the Philippines and since all Southeast Asians can pass for a Filipino the misconception was inevitable. Ever since sixth grade I’ve known her as the nice girl who loved to talk, and I’m glad that despite the changes in people over the past few years, she remained pretty much the same. She’s full of surprises and I love that, unlike me, she lives a healthy and active lifestyle, while trying to save the planet at the same time. I would also like to add that while she complains to having horrible circles under her eyes, I do too and so do a lot of people. She’s on the better side since she goes paragliding or cliffhanging or whatever it’s called. In Cebu. CEBU!! She’s been to more places in my country than I have.

Anyway, I can’t wait to spend junior year with you guys!!

Now, I’m off to Tumblr to spam the world.

more on “Opposition” by Kaneko Mitsuharu

30 July 2009

Once in a while it really is good to just take a step back from what everyone expects, what everyone wants and what everything is into. To live a little according to one’s own terms rather than by the rules set by everyone else. That’s partly why I chose my IB courses in a particular way. I chose my classes based on my personal interests rather than what I’m expected to take. I don’t enjoy maths and sciences as much as, say, languages, for example, so I won’t force myself into a higher level Physics class and sob over my C- afterwards. In the end, it’s my life and my decisions, and these decisions won’t affect anyone else but me.

Okay, that’s all.

This about explains it.

lovethemusichatethescene2Also, eight tracks to describe what today’s iTunes playlist consists of (artist-wise):

  1. MGMT – Pieces of What
  2. The National – Start A War
  3. The Most Serene Republic – Patternicity
  4. God Is An Astronaut – From Dust To The Beyond
  5. Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
  6. Why? – These Hands
  7. Tom Felton – If You Could Be Anywhere
  8. Regina Spektor – Us

Really, it’s a total of 162 songs by these artists. Random, I know, but that’s how it works. “Pieces of What” has been stuck in my head since yesterday. It just so happens that until now, I still love MGMT, haters to the left.

Shaking and laughing and screaming at your “deck”-ness.

28 July 2009

For no real comprehensive reason, this postcard made me extremely happy. I’m assuming that this postcard was intended to put a smile on someone’s face, but my reaction was not to the sweetness of the couple. As I said, I don’t have a reason comprehensive enough for me to articulate. It just made me happy, even though there isn’t anyone that I’m infatuated with right now. Seriously. Whoever said that absence makes the heart grow fonder is a liar. Prolonged absence causes distance, which in effect allows a person to explore other aspects of life and spend time with other people, which can cause that person to lose interest, if not forget in entirety, in the other person. That’s how it worked for me, at least. I’m fascinated in the reality that I am atypically complacent with that idea.

Last night I fell asleep past one a.m., I’m not sure when exactly, but all I know for sure is that I woke up at 3 and have been awake since. It was the first time I’d seen the morning in a while, the first time I ate a decent breakfast. It was refreshing, despite the fact that I have an unnecessary lack of sleep. What kept me up was the long-running thought that I need to go shopping, desperately. I don’t even need to make a list of things that my wardrobe lacks/I need; besides, this isn’t just about the things that I need. I honestly believe that aside from my closet’s lack of quality basics, my wardrobe at its current state does not reflect my personality accurately. I need some change, please.

Despite today’s unproductivity as a day spent criticising scenesters and window shopping online, I was able to start the day by finishing off Chuck Palahniuk’s novel, Pygmy. Though I’m not fond of happy endings in Palahniuk novels, Pygmy was definitely a fun read that was quirky, humorous, and contained Palahniuk’s signature brand of satire. Another hint of productivity today came with a visit to the dentist. I had my teeth professionally cleaned for the first time in a while and got a couple of new fillings. Thankfully I didn’t get to taste the bitter blue stuff today. Also, I’m glad I got the dental stuff finished before school.

Speaking of which, I shall officially be a junior in nine days. Mixed emotions consume me.

At this point in time, I still believe that hipsters suck. They can all wallow in their postmodernism and shop American Apparel while listening to whatever Pitchfork tells them to while appearing nonchalant and indifferent to the consumerism that surrounds them. Hipsters. They give emo kids personality. Also, the sky is blue.

p.s. I’m finally sharing INTERESTSINCLUDE with people. Since sharing is caring and whatnot.

Because I haven’t been able to write about anything worthwhile lately…

14 July 2009

Tumblr account: kayechichas

On my Tumblr account I reblog most of the time, post videos and photos and whatnot. I’ll write back on here once I have something to write about.

Quick updates:

  • less than a hundred pages to go with Survivor. Because it is a Palahniuk, I can read it more efficiently than Murakami. It’s a very witty little piece of twistedness. I like it very much.
  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince comes out on Thursday, and I just might get to watch it on Friday morning with Paulina and Tita Ella. So excited.
  • I got information from Colby College in the mail. I love getting mail.
  • School-related stuff:
    • July 23 – uniform shop will be open everyday from 7am-4pm
    • August 3 – must go to school to get schedules, IDs, locker assignments, stickers, etc.
    • August 5 – new student orientation
    • August 6 – start of the first semester
  • I am almost done with all pages of failblog.org because I have been rather bored lately.

Tumblr awaits. All my Tumblr and Plurk updates are shipped automatically to my Twitter.

Oh, and every single update I have gets shipped to my FriendFeed account, which is public. Eep: http://www.friendfeed.com/kayechichas

Alright. I’m off.

Quick Summer Reading Update

11 July 2009

Since I haven’t posted in a while, just gonna say that I finished reading Norwegian Wood last night and started Survivor about 15 minutes later. I’m reading the book from the last page making my way towards the first because that’s apparently how it’s supposed to be read. Palahniuk is one crazy guy.

I need a list of good classics to read. Must get smarter before the SATs.
