For some reason, metal no longer has any effect on me. It can’t make me happy, or sad, or angry, or afraid. Screamo vocals and heavy guitar solos do nothing; they don’t allow for the channeling of any comprehensible moods or emotions. When they play, as I listen to them, they’re just.. there.

I have never felt so detached from a musical genre. As I type, I find myself listening to Dragonforce’s “Inside the Winter Storm”. Is there something wrong with the bands that I listen to?

About a year ago, this was the music that moved me. I listened to Escape the Fate, Bullet For My Valentine and other post-hardcore bands semi-religiously (of course, I have never listened to only one genre at a time) and allowed myself to be truly consumed by their songs played at full blast. Nowadays, however, I find their music — dare I say it? — boring.

Dull.

Now Playing:  “The Guillotine” by Escape the Fate. And it does nothing for me. As it fades out, nothing has changed and I remain as neutral as ever.

I’ll go listen to J-pop now.
